Dear Dr. Forshay:

	Enclosed is a draft of a proposal for research into robot
coal mining.  The proposal is vaguer than usual, because we haven't
had enough contact with you to know what is reasonable for you to
support.  If one of the more ambitious options were chosen, we would
have to consult with University officials in order to decide what
is appropriate for Stanford to undertake, since a substantial long term
commitment on both your part and ours would be involved.

	If some variant of the proposal might interest you, we would
like to meet with you and discuss the possibilities.
